CAL offers comprehensive testing services to assist manufacturers and suppliers to determine the potency and/or purity of raw materials, intermediates and finished products.

This testing service is specifically tailored to clients producing, distributing or importing Foods; Pharmaceuticals, natural health products and cosmetics; and manufacturers of raw materials.


Herbal Testing

Natural Health Products pose a significant analytical challenge. Marker compounds are defined as unique molecules that are constitutively expressed, that do not vary as a function of harvest, storage, and processing conditions.

To find such a stable molecule in a botanical is often challenging enough. The second challenge is then to source a standard of suitable purity. While it is not difficult to overcome these two basic challenges for raw materials or single ingredient formulations, it does become very difficult to quantify botanical ingredients in complex, multiple ingredient formulations.

Our analytical strategies include:

Vitamin and Mineral Testing


Vitamins and minerals are not nearly as difficult as botanicals and have been routinely determined in our laboratory for over 20 years. We have been testing vitamins by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) well before their individual tests were articulated in international pharmacopeias such as the USP, therefore making us a leader in the industry.

For food and pharmaceutical-type products, our scope of capabilities includes both chemical and microbiological aspects of analysis.




CAL has the ability to test all pharmaceuticals (Rx and OTC) using current official methodologies, including both chemical and microbiological based methods.


CAL has abilities to test food and additive products using official methods for both suitability and compliance with nutritional labeling required for Nutritional Analysis. Food analysis can cover the determination of toxic metals, artificial colouring, flavouring, preservatives, pesticide residue and microbial contamination. Our microbiology department is able to enumerate many strains of bacteria.
